As our International Women's Day series continues to spotlight exceptional talent, we turn next to our chief economist, Nerida Conisbee, whose data-driven insights have become a cornerstone of property market commentary across Australasia. In just four years with Ray White, she's elevated our economic voice to national prominence, becoming a trusted fixture on breakfast television screens nationwide and positioning her as ‘the most quoted property commentator’ in the industry.

Known for her encyclopedic recall of market statistics and refreshingly accessible delivery, Nerida's true legacy extends beyond her public persona. Behind every media appearance stands a mentor who meticulously creates opportunities for her team to develop their authentic voices in a complex industry.

Nerida, over to you!

What piece of advice would you tell your younger self or someone just starting out? Be authentically yourself.

When I started out, economics and research roles were heavily male-dominated. I mistakenly believed I needed to adopt their communication style to gain recognition and credibility. It wasn't until I embraced my authentic voice and perspective that my career truly flourished. Your unique viewpoint isn't just valuable—it's essential to driving innovation and progress in your field.

Over your 4 years here, what moments or achievements have made you most proud to be part of this organisation?

During my 4 years with Ray White, one of my proudest personal achievements has been elevating our market insights to national breakfast television, bringing our expertise to households across the country. More recently, my greatest satisfaction has come from watching my team grow in confidence as respected spokespeople in both media appearances and throughout the broader property industry. Seeing them develop their own authentic voices has been incredibly rewarding.

What's the number one challenge you've faced, as a woman, in your exceptional career?

Early in my career, the greatest challenge was the scarcity of visible female role models. While senior women existed in the industry, they were difficult to identify and connect with before platforms like LinkedIn made professional networks more accessible. Social media certainly has its drawbacks, but it has been transformative in expanding professional connections and creating visibility for women in leadership positions across industries.

This International Women's Day, what message would you like to share with other women about building a long-term career they love?

Intentionally surround yourself with people who genuinely support and champion your growth. Build a network of mentors, peers, and allies who see your potential and encourage you to take risks. And most importantly, bring your authentic self to your work—your unique perspective is your greatest professional asset. The career you'll love most is one where you don't have to compromise who you are to succeed.

In their words...

While Nerida is often in the spotlight as Chief Economist, what many don't see is how deliberately she works to share that spotlight with others. What has consistently impressed me is her ability to recognise the unique strengths in each team member and create tailored opportunities for their growth and visibility. She quietly ensures everyone's contributions are acknowledged and valued. Her guidance has been transformative for my own professional development, and I've seen her provide this same thoughtful mentorship across the team. This behind-the-scenes investment in people creates a powerful ripple effect that strengthens our entire organisation in ways that aren't immediately visible but are profoundly impactful.

- Atom Go Tian, senior data analyst

Nerida has the supreme research superpower being the ability to rattle off facts and figures across economic and property markets with conviction. Not only can she do this, but deliver it in such as succinct and easy way which sets her apart from others in the industry. A true market leader.
