Behind twenty years of financial excellence at Ray White stands our next International Women’s Day interviewee - Wanhuey Ooi. With a clear-eyed precision and unwavering calm that redefine what great leadership looks like, her journey with Ray White has been a nothing-short-of brilliant one.
As a mother of two who champions stepping outside comfort zones, Wan has built her career on balancing the detailed demands of Group financial reporting with nurturing the careers of countless finance professionals who've flourished under her guidance.
What her team values most? The way she checks in on them despite her own pressing deadlines, creating what can be described as 'a pocket of calm excellence' where both detailed analysis and big-picture thinking flourish.
Let's hear from Wan!
What piece of advice would you tell your younger self or someone just starting out?
Don't be afraid to take risks and step outside of your comfort zone. It's where the growth and change happen.
Over your nearly 20(!) years here, what moments or achievements have made you most proud to be part of this organisation?
One of my proudest moments was leading and supporting a team of finance professionals to achieve their career goals and contribute to the overall success of RW!
What’s the number one challenge you’ve faced, as a woman, in your exceptional career?
The biggest challenge has been balancing high expectations - both professionally and personally especially being a mum of two. But I've learned to prioritise and make it work with the support from my family and amazing people at RW!
This International Women's Day, what message would you like to share with other women about building a long-term career they love?
Don't give up on your dreams. Building a long-term career takes courage, so let's support each other, speak up and never underestimate your impact! It's possible to have a rewarding and fulfilling career that you love!
In their words...
She is such a supportive leader. Even if she is pushed on her own deadlines, she will always make it a priority to check in on her team members and help out with questions or struggles. She has the type of leadership that makes her people want to go above and beyond.
A super valuable thing she taught me that I use every day is to always think about the end user. If I pull together a report, she showed me how to think about what pieces of information are key to highlight and summarise.
Wan's superpower is that somehow she is so on top of everything!! She can think about the details and how it applies to the high level in a way that shocks me even after 6+ years of working together!
- Rachel Navruk, finance manager
In my years of working with Wan, I have never seen her lose her cool. Her unflappable composure when faced with even the most unreasonable of last-minute demands is impressive, but it's how she pairs that calmness with meticulous preparation that makes her exceptional.
While many of us pride ourselves on thinking on our feet, Wan understands that thorough groundwork creates the freedom to adapt. She arrives ready for any scenario—and does it all with a genuine smile, even under immense pressure. Her positive approach ripples through her team, creating a pocket of calm excellence that builds the kind of trust you simply can't mandate—you have to earn it.
- Andrew Jamson, CFO White Family Office
