Originally from Hungary, her career trajectory took a significant turn when she relocated to Australia, making the move from a marketing professional into a leading valuation expert. Recently being awarded Rising Star for the RWC network internationally, her story is not just one of career change but of embracing new challenges and making a mark in a field, traditionally dominated by men.

A serendipitous transition

Brigitta’s move from Hungary to Australia was initially planned as a brief six-month stay. However, fate had other plans. “I was working in marketing back in Hungary,” she explains. “When I came to Australia, I lived with my sister who was running her own property management company. It felt like a natural progression to get involved in property too, and we began to work together.”

This chance encounter with the property industry eventually sparked Brigitta’s transition into valuations - a field where her skills and interests found a perfect match. She studied at TAFE and joined the RWC Valuations team.

A passion for unique challenges

What drew Brigitta to valuations was the dynamic and varied nature of the work. “Each property is unique, which means every valuation is different,” she says. “You get to assess various factors like location, condition, market trends, and economic indicators, making the work both challenging and stimulating.”

She particularly enjoys the opportunity to explore beautiful properties, relishing the balance between fieldwork and office tasks. “I love driving around and looking at beautiful properties. It is refreshing to be able to get out and about and not just sit in an office all day; you get the best of both worlds.”

Championing women in valuations

Brigitta has observed a significant shift in the industry, with more women emerging as key players. “Yes, there has been a noticeable shift toward more women entering and making significant strides in the valuation industry,” she says. “Organisations and industry groups are increasingly recognising the value of diverse teams and are working to support and promote women in the field. It’s an exciting development that contributes to a more balanced and dynamic industry.”

She is actively involved in initiatives that support women in valuations, including Ray White's Leading Ladies and Women in Property Valuation. “I’ve had the opportunity to meet many remarkable women through these events, and it’s been impressive to see the increasing number of females participating,” she says.

Among her career milestones, Brigitta considers receiving the RWC Rising Star award for FY23/24 as one of her greatest achievements. “Receiving the Rising Star award was a major career highlight,” she reflects. “It’s a true measure of my progress, and I’m eager to see what opportunities the future holds.”

Advice for the next generation

For young women considering a career in property, Brigitta has practical advice. “Seek out mentors who can provide guidance, share their experiences, and assist you in navigating the industry,” she suggests. “Their insights can be incredibly valuable for your professional growth.”

“Trust in your skills and abilities,” she continues. “Although the property industry can be challenging, having confidence in your expertise and decisions will help you navigate it successfully.”

“Engage with industry professionals by attending networking events, joining industry groups, and utilising social media,” she says. “Building a strong professional network can open doors and provide invaluable support.”

As she continues to make strides in her field, Brigitta's story stands as a beacon of possibility for those looking to carve out their own path in property valuations.
