Pet ownership is on the rise and state governments are amending the laws accordingly so it’s important to know your rights and responsibilities when it comes to having a pet in your home.

Step 1 : Landlord consent
Before bringing a new pet into your rental property, you must obtain your landlord's consent. You need to fill out a separate form for each pet you wish to keep. Please refer to your local requirements.

Step 2 : Responsible pet ownership
Once you have a pet, it’s important to ensure it doesn’t cause damage, create a nuisance, or prevent you from keeping the property reasonably clean. If your pet does cause issues, your landlord may issue a breach notice, requiring you to address the problem. If the issue isn’t resolved, they can escalate the matter to tribunal.
