The day included training sessions from Victoria and Tasmania chief auctioneer Jeremy Tyrrell and New South Wales head of auctions Perry Edmondson-Clark.

Top auctioneers Briannan David from Cooley Auctions and Ray White Bayside Group’s Angela Limanis also shared their stories.

Angela, whose career highlights include facilitating a charity auction at The Shed in Crows Nest, Queensland and being a part of the Connect 2022 Auction Aria, gave the group some helpful tips. She encouraged them to book in professional photographers and videographers to attend their auctions to create promotional and social media content. She also urged them to seek out a mentor or trainer, join auctioneering competitions, participate in charity auctions, and find public speaking opportunities to grow their confidence.

In 2017, Briannan competed in the REINSW Seniors’ Competition and became the first female to make the final, she was again a finalist in 2020. She stressed that overcoming fear and lack of confidence is key, saying not everyone is going to want to book you so you need to find your people, hold onto them, and nurture them.

Ray White Inverloch principal Fiona McMahon-Hughes was inspired to start her auctioneering journey by the initiative. She also helped connect her sales associate Katie Harris with Ray White Mernda sales agent and auctioneer Chloe Topouzis who also attended so the two could share their experiences and advice both as young women in the industry.

The Ray White Auction Academy for Women was founded by Ray White sales performance executive and auctioneer Valentina Parra with a clear mission: to create opportunities and provide specialised training for women in the auction industry.

“While auctioneering is a dynamic and rewarding profession, access to structured education, mentorship, and professional development tailored to women has been limited. The academy was established to bridge this gap, offering a platform where women can build their skills, confidence, and networks,” Valentina said.

“More than just an educational program, the academy is a movement dedicated to empowering women in auctioneering, business development, and leadership. Through expert-led training, hands-on experiences, and community support, it provides the tools and knowledge necessary for success in this exciting field.

“By fostering a supportive environment and equipping women with the skills they need, the Auction Academy for Women is shaping the future of the auction industry, one bid at a time.”
