Founded in 2014, by Ray White Wetherill Park real estate agent Mathew Bell, the event from 10am-3pm is designed for veterans and their families, and friends.
A professional photographer for the past 15 years, Mr Bell (pictured) has run more than 45 events across Sydney, the Gold Coast, Canberra and Melbourne and said Friday’s (25 April) InstaMeet would be the largest event he has ever organised.
Mr Bell was deployed to East Timor in 2008 and Afghanistan in 2012 as an infantry soldier and took more than 10,000 photos of fellow comrades.
“Photography is my release, it's my ability to disconnect with the world and get back to nature, my passion is seascapes,” Mr Bell said.
“Our aim is to connect veterans through shared photography outings and events with the intention to foster a sense of community and support among veterans.”
Mr Bell said the Veterans InstaMeet was created to “fill a void in the veteran space”.
“I wanted to bring veterans of all generations together with photography as the centrepiece, but connection and fun as the objective,” he said.
“Like me, many veterans feel disconnected and alone once they discharge from service, my hope is that this group brings more of us together.”
About 5000 veterans and their families are expected to attend the event which will be set up at Anzac Memorial, Hyde Park Sydney.
