What was your job before property management?
I worked in student accommodation and, after six years in that space, I then decided to do my real estate real estate license. During that time I fell in love with property management and haven't looked back over 20 years later. I still love property management to this day.
What do you love about property management?
There is great variety in the role, I love the mix between being in and out of the office, not sitting at a desk all day. I enjoy getting to know people, being the person someone can turn to for advice, assisting clients through difficult situations and the challenges that the role brings on a daily basis, all of which keeps your mind active, and it's certainly never boring.
What is your favourite way to unwind?
I love going out to dinner with friends, getting outdoors and spending time with my two cavoodles Bailey and Mia. They are such a joy to be around.
What is your advice to aspiring property managers?
Always be kind, respectful and care. Communication is the key to property management. Don't be afraid to get on he phone; having conversations helps build great relationships and helps you better understand your clients needs. You can also learn a lot from others; the more you learn, the more you grow.
Rural Propery Manager of the Year
What was your job before property management?
I had the pleasure of doing work experience twice with Mellisa and the team, which eventually led to my role as their Saturday assistant during my final years of school. At the end of 2022, I officially became part of the team as an administration assistant. During my time with the team I have slowly transitioned into the property management role, however being such a small office means you get to assist with all aspects of the business.
What do you love about property management?
I love meeting new people and getting to know their stories. While being a property manager brings new challenges every day, building lasting relationships with clients is truly the highlight of my work. It's an honour to guide first-time investors through the process and to watch them grow their portfolios along with the experienced investors.
What is your favourite way to unwind?
I'm definitely a social butterfly at heart, so spending time with family and friends, playing and coaching local sports, as well as exploring new places takes up a lot of my time. When I get the chance, I love going for long walks and getting away to the beach.
What is your advice to aspiring property managers?
Just go with the flow! Some days will be challenging, and you might need a break in the tea room, but this job will open so many doors for you, with endless opportunities for growth. Don’t be afraid to say yes and embrace new challenges along the way.
Manager of the Year
What was your job before property management?
I've been involved in commercial property management for so long (30 years) I can hardly remember! Prior to commencing my real estate career which started with Westfield, I was a Customer Service Manager for a large building company.
What do you love about property management?
There is never a dull moment in commercial property management and the variety of tasks makes every day different. It's a very challenging but rewarding job.
What is your favourite way to unwind?
A glass of wine, watching the sunset (when possible) and talking about the day with my partner.
What is your advice to aspiring property managers?
I believe that success lies in having a thorough knowledge and understanding of your properties, tenants and lease documentation which enables you to be a proactive problem-solver. Building strong relationships by knowing your landlords and tenants, mastering the details of lease contracts, and consistently offering insightful solutions and advice to landlords positions you as a strategic asset.

What was your job before property management?
I was a personal trainer and group fitness instructor.
What do you love about property management?
That every day is different and after 13 years I'm still learning. It also warms my heart to help people on their property journey whether that be as a landlord or a tenant.
What is your favourite way to unwind?
Pilates, beach walks, and wine is always welcome.
What is your advice to aspiring property managers?
Don't sweat the small stuff, the tough days become some of the most rewarding days and us property managers always stick together, so reach out if you need support or advice.
NZ Property Manager of the Year
What was your job before property management?
I worked in sales and finance. This experience sharpened my skills in client interactions and negotiations. These skills have really helped me effectively manage properties and with meeting both tenant and owner expectations.
What do you love about property management?
The variety it offers - no two days are the same, and each property presents unique challenges and opportunities. I also value the chance to build long-lasting relationships with tenants, property owners, and investors, which contributes to a more rewarding work experience.
What is your favourite way to unwind?
I enjoy playing golf, playing football, and going on trips.
What is your advice to aspiring property managers?
My advice is to continuously educate yourself and stay updated on industry trends. Enrol in relevant training programs and seek guidance from experienced professionals. Following established processes and best practices in property management has helped my success.
Rural Property Manager of the Year
What was your job before property management?
Hospitality management for over 10 years. I worked across many different aspects including function and wedding planning, managing a large Brisbane hotel, back of house duties, running large scale venues.
What do you love about property management?
Interacting with landlord, tenants and trades; knowing that my landlord’s property is getting the best management possible and that my tenants are well looked after in their rental properties. I love solving problems and getting the best outcome in any situation for all parties involved.
What is your favourite way to unwind?
Spending time with my two beautiful children, family and friends. I also enjoy weekend camping trips and exploring new places.
What is your advice to aspiring property managers?
Always just be yourself, be truthful, work hard and always keep up to date with legislation, as it is forever changing. Communication is the key to being a successful property manager.
WA Property Manager of the Year
What was your job before property management?
Before property management I was in hospitality/ retail. I fell into property management after I had my daughter and haven't looked back.
What do you love about property management?
Every day is slightly different, I thrive on the challenges that property management presents.
What is your favourite way to unwind?
Time with my family! Life can be so fast paced during the week so come the weekend sitting down and watching a movie as a family is the best feeling.
What is your advice to aspiring property managers?
The work is hard but very rewarding. Continue learning and building relationships.
QLD Property Manager of the Year
What was your job before property management?
Carpenter. I did a school based apprenticeship in Carpentry, which gave me the privilege to finish it young. But it took its physical toll on my body and I had to explore other career options.
What do you love about property management?
The relationships you build with people and their families. You’re either providing a home or helping provide a financial future. I also love that property management is a team sport.
What is your favourite way to unwind?
Enjoying a nice steak, meditating and/or reading a personal development book.
What is your advice to aspiring property managers?
Become a lifelong learner. Learn about communication, investing, architecture, business, emotional intelligence, mindset, personalities, leadership and sales. Show to others that you’re interested in improving yourself and welcome feedback.
NSW Property Manager of the Year
What was your job before property management?
I worked in aged care and prior to that childcare.
What do you love about property management?
I love helping people and ensuring that both tenants and landlords are happy and also the connections you make along the way.
What is your favourite way to unwind?
After a long day I leave work at the front door and spend quality time with my two beautiful children or reading a quiet book after bedtime.
What is your advice to aspiring property managers?
Just keep going. Some days are tougher than others and it's ok to ask for help. Whether that is for an upcoming tribunal case or a simple question if you're unsure. There's no ‘I’ in ‘team’ and when you rally together, you are unstoppable.
